Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 LE in a single module
Called Type 1XL, it is built around NXP’s 88W9098 chip set and supports IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax 2×2 MU-MIMO (multi-user, multiple-input, multiple-output) and single antenna Bluetooth 5.3 Low Energy, BR and EDR.
“The Wi-Fi section supports connectivity up to 1.4x faster than conventional Wi-Fi compatible devices, offering data rates of up to 1,200Mbit/s,” according to Murata. It “also supports the PCIe 3.0 interface with optional support for SDIO 3.0”.
In IEEE 802.11ax mode, rates of MCS0 – MCS9 (up to 1,024 QAM) in 20MHz, 40MHz and 80MHz channels are supported for the 1,200Mbit/s rate.
Its Bluetooth radios supports speeds up to 2Mbit/s using a high-speed four-wire UART interface, with optional support for SDIO and PCM for audio data – 3Mbit PHY data rate is supported according to Murata’s associate product brief.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth collaborative coexistence hardware mechanisms and algorithms are included in the NXP IC and dual 2×2 Wi-Fi operation is supported with implicit and explicit beamforming.
Murata’s packaging know-how went into squeezing everything into 19.1 x 16.5 x 2.1mm.
Applications are foreseen in IoT, smart home, audio, video, voice, smart TV and gateway applications.
A reference antennae design for FCC/IC certifications and CE conducted test is planned.
